Four people arrested by dog handlers in Arundel

QUICK-thinking police dog handlers led to four people being arrested on suspicion of burglary in Arundel yesterday afternoon (Monday, August 8).

Police were called to Oakend at around 3.15pm following a report that a group of youths were attempting to break into a property.

Four officers attended the scene, with two dogs, and traced one of the youths – a 15-year-old boy – into nearby woodland and was arrested on suspicion of burglary. He has been released on police bail until August 16 pending further enquiries.

With the assistance of nearby witnesses, police traced another three suspects to properties in Jarvis Road and Canada Road.

Jemma Greaves, 23, of Jarvis Road, has been charged with attempted burglary with intent to steal. She has been bailed to appear at Chichester Magistrates’ Court on August 26.

A 15-year-old girl from Arundel was arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary and has been released on police bail until August 16 pending further enquiries.

A 14-year-old girl, also from Arundel, was arrested in Canada Road on suspicion of attempted burglary and was also bailed until August 16.

Inspector Di Lewis of Sussex Police Dogs Unit said: “Thanks to a call from a witness we were able to provide a quick response and put into action the dog unit which helped to trace the suspects and resulted in four quick arrests.”
