Members of Shoreham Baptist Church will be positioned around the market in East Street from 10am to 12.30pm. They will be dressed as characters from the Nativity story, including angels, shepherds and wise men, and they will be joined by a live donkey again.

People taking part will have to find the characters and give them a key password phrase from the entry form, which will be handed out free. Each time they find a character and give them the password, they will get a stamp on their form, which they will then need to take to the baptist church in Western Road to hand in when completed.

Greeting treasure hunters at the church will be Mary and Joseph, and there will be free refreshments for all participants.

There will also be some chocolate ‘treasure’ for children, a Christmas cracker and an opportunity to take part in some craft activities.

If the weather is bad, then the treasure hunt will move indoors to the church.

The overall winner, picked from a hat, will get a £25 voucher to spend at Toast By The Coast in East Street.

Nick Hough, one of the organisers, said: “The Nativity treasure hunt has been a big hit since it was first run five years ago, so the church has decided to run it again this year and they are hoping for a bumper number of family entrants.”

The church is also putting on a special Donkey Tales family service on Sunday at 3.30pm. This family-friendly service will include carols, the Nativity story, craft activities, and tea and cakes for all.

The church’s traditional carols by candlelight service is on December 18 at 6.30pm.
