Free updates on county council site

People visiting East Sussex County Council's website - eastsussex.gov.uk- now have the opportunity to subscribe to a new, free service thatprovides updates when new information is added to the site.

The Council has introduced 'Really Simple Syndication (RSS) feeds' toits website.

This allows people using the appropriate software to benotified about new features and the latest council news direct to theircomputer without having to search for it themselves.

The County Councilis planning to create more RSS feeds for the site in the near future. The initiative is another boost for the Council's award-winning site.

The Council has also introduced a new home page with the aim of makingit even easier and clearer for people to navigate their way to theinformation and online services they want. In March this year the County Council's website gained the highestaccolade possible from the IT industry when it was placed in the toptwenty public sector websites in the UK by the Society of IT Managers.East Sussex made the top twenty group out of a total of 470 localauthority websites tested during a national review. In January, the Council reported that the Office of the Deputy PrimeMinister had placed the East Sussex website joint first out of 34 UKcounty council sites for availability. Last year the site gainedaccreditation from the Royal National Institute for the Blind and in2004 the site was given the Internet Crystal mark from the Plain EnglishCampaign.
