French tradition at Charters Ancaster

Charters Ancaster Prep and Nursery School welcomed Town Mayor Councillor Patrick Douart to attend its French Epiphany celebration.

The "Fte des Rois" is the Festival of Kings and celebrated on twelfth night, which is January 6.

In France a special cake la Galette des Rois, made of puff pastry and frangipane, is baked and a small figurine (la feve) is hidden inside it. Whoever finds la feve in their piece of cake becomes the king or queen for the day and puts on a cardboard crown.

Escorted by senior pupils The Mayor and Mayoress were given a full tour of the school and nursery before enjoying "la Galette des Rois".

Madame Alff, Charters Ancaster's native French teacher commented: "It was an ideal opportunity for the children to extend their knowledge of French traditions and practice their French."

The Mayor and Mayoress were also greeted in French by the reception class and forms 1 and 2 children who were making crowns for the Epiphany celebration.
