Sarah Watkins, of Bayford Road, Littlehampton, cut her hair on Saturday for Macmillan Cancer Support, which helped her friend Sue Goodchild after she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013.

Sarah’s daughter, Jessica, now 18, was born with neuroblastoma in her chest. After two operations and ten months of chemotherapy before the age of two, she was cleared of the condition and has grown into a fit and healthy 18-year-old.

It was that experience and the help Macmillan gave to Jessica and Sue which motivated Sarah to give back.

Sarah, 49, said: “I work for a national housing association, so I have access to lots of people who perhaps aren’t local but would support me for a good cause. That’s why I did the one-off thing.

“We had so much support from Macmillan when my daughter was diagnosed with cancer when she was born, so we wanted to give something back.”

So far Sarah and Sue’s family and friends have raised £1,500 from a variety of fundraising activities.

The group’s target is £3,200.

On April 12 the group is holding a race night at East Preston Football Club, with the races being sponsored by local businesses.
