Friends don DJs and posh frocks for charity

Friends and neighbours in a Yapton road had a ball in raising cash for charity.

The residents of Cherry Avenue donned their dinner jackets and posh frocks to look glamorous for the latest of their annual occasions.

About 120 went along to make the occasion a success.

The result was their best fundraising result so far.

They handed over a 1,000 cheque for Macmillan Cancer Support to local organiser Sue Bond on the night. A further 330 is waiting to be donated.

Paula Wallbridge, one of those who enjoyed the occasion, said: "It was a fantastic night to be able to get together with our neighbours and friends and for such a good cause as well."

Another ball-goer, Kate Simmons, said: "It was a pleasure to be able to donate 1,000 from the ball to such a worthwhile charity.

"We are grateful that Sue Bond came along to accept the cheque on behalf of the charity."

The balls begun in Cherry Avenue in 2000 and have been held every year since. A hog roast and a disco ensured plenty for everyone to enjoy.
