FRIENDS of Downlands in Peacehaven are celebrating receiving £9,534 from the Big Lottery Fund.
The money will fund the Downlands Court Community Outings Group for a year.
Downlands Court is a facility for the over 60s in Roundhay Avenue, opened in September 2009.
It aims to be a community hub, offering activities and services to older people in Seahaven, with the support of volunteers.
The Friends of Downlands was founded in November 2009, supported by community participation worker, Sue Sayers, from The Trust for Developing Communities.
Friends of Downlands fundraise for equipment and activities, as well as supporting volunteers.
Sue said: “The Big Lottery Fund grant is very good news.
“Friends of Downlands will be able to develop a group who will plan a programme of minibus outings for older people throughout 2011 and 12.”
The Friends would also like to hear from people if they would like to volunteer or become a minibus driver.
