Only a handful have been cared for by concerned residents, the rest being left.

But in the last few weeks a transformation has taken place, thanks to David Donaldson, Adur district councillor for Eastbrook.

The forlorn sight of the planters had bugged Mr Donaldson for many years.

Then, earlier this year, with the strong support of fellow Eastbrook councillor Jim Funnell, he approached the Adur Consultative Forum, a residents’ association.

He made the largest request for funding they had ever received, in order to refurbish the planters.

Mr Donaldson said: “The forum readily agreed. The work commenced in early October and was completed within two weeks. The pictures completes the story.”
