UCKFIELD’S Fun and Safety event will again be held at Uckfield Fire Station during the Easter school holidays.
The 2010 event attracted 600 people and even more are expected this year.
Among the activities on offer are a children’s entertainer, penalty shoot-out competition, fire engine and face painting.
It takes place on Thursday, April 14 at Uckfield Fire Station, Bell Farm Road from 10.30am until 1pm.
It provides a popular occasion to encourage young people and their parents to think about many aspects of community safety, personal safety, accident prevention and food hygiene – while having a good time.
Wealden’s head of public health, Peter Griggs said: “Fun and Safety provides an important opportunity to teach children about some of the hazards they may face while at the same time offering a range of fun activities and the chance to get to know more about the emergency services and how they can help in an accident.
As well as the emotional cost to the individuals and families concerned, accidents in the home and in the street put an increased burden on our health and support services.
That is why we try to take steps like this to prevent them.”
Tesco is supporting the event with free fruit.
Children under eight must be accompanied by a parent or carer.
A wide range of organisations is helping out with the event including: Wealden District Council, East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, Sussex Police, East Sussex County Council – Children’s Services, East Sussex Downs and Weald PCT, Safer Wealden Partnership, Active Play and UK Power Networks
