Fun on dance floor, Irish style

ALMOST 30 people, young and old, took part in Irish set dancing and got Bexhill moving to a 'rousing' beat.

This was the first of three sessions at St Mary Magdalene’s hall and a great success, according to organiser Jack Doherty.

He said in just a few hours those present were dancing away “hilariously” and “like the best of friends”, with some from afar afield at France, Manchester, Scotland and the Emerald Isle, “all bringing their own cultural understanding and experience to hammer the floor”.

Jack added: “Younger ones Bella and Sophie Cornford said it was different, challenging and energetic. Mums Wendy and Deanna said there was as much energy for laughing as from the dancing. There was the learning experience of trying to cope with new steps, like sliding and tapping, but maintaining the theme of the set, the Connemara for example.

“The talent of the teacher was matched by the dancing prowess. There were interesting comparisons between set and ceilidh dancing, but all the same fundamental ingredients of joy, energy and as Tomas O’Dea, the leader said, ‘there isn’t time to get fat’.”

The sessions continue tomorrow, Saturday February 26, and March 5 from 3-5.30pm. For further details email jack
