PARENTS, teachers and supporters of a village school are embarking on a massive fundraising drive.
Little Horsted School has been given the mammoth task of raising £64,000 towards a new hall to accommodate its growing number of pupils.
The current hall is half the recommended size which limits the number and variety of events it can be used for.
The total cost of the hall is £640,000 and the school is expected to raise 10 per cent of that figure. One of the fund raising events planned is a fun run on June 12. All the money raised will go towards the building of the new hall.
Everyone – including hardly-ever-get-out-of-the-door strollers are welcome as runs of just one kilometre, five kilometres and ten kilometres have been organised for the morning. There will also be welcome refreshments and food to refresh the runners and their families as well as prizes for the winners.
Anyone interested in taking part can download an application form from: http://tinyurl.com/lhfunrun.
The school PTFA are looking for people keen to participate and help out where needed. They need marshals as well as runners. Anyone who is interested does not need to have an association with the school although it is hoped that pupils past and present will support the cause.
Work will start on the hall once the school has broken up for the summer holiday, and the project should be finished by next Easter.
Head teacher Michael Davies said: “The Fun Run will be a great way for people to show support for the school and contribute to its future whilst enjoying a healthy outdoors activity. We had 200 runners at last year’s event and hope that this year will be even more succesful.”
