Fund-raisers set to end 200-mile walk in Littlehampton today

FUND-raisers taking part in trace:africa, a sponsored walk, were set to arrive in Littlehampton today (Saturday, April 14).

The 10-day, 200-mile event has seen James Hanks and Chris Denson, supporters of Horsham charity Friends Reaching Out, follow a route the same shape as the continent across seven counties.

Walking about 20 miles daily, they have been living on £2 a day.

Chris, of Rusper, said the money raised would be used to build a primary school in Kisimula, Uganda.

“Ninety per cent of the charity’s support comes from sponsorship of individual children,” he said.

“Funds for projects such as the school must come to us specifically for those projects, which makes events such as trace:africa vital.”

The new school will replace the current temporary shelter.

“A new building will benefit the children and the entire community, providing opportunity for employment, a central community hub and improved education prospects for future generations,” he added.

They will talk at Littlehampton Baptist Church, tomorrow (Sunday, April 15) before walking back to Horsham.
