Wave Leisure Trust invited individuals and groups to apply for funds of up to £500 earlier in the year – with the criteria being that it will help the development of active lifestyles in the Lewes District area.

2017 marked the tenth year that the not-for-profit trust had given grant funding to community projects.

Dan Chambers, finance support manager at Wave, said: “Every year we receive a large amount of fantastic applications from community groups wishing to organise activities in the local area, but the stumbling block is funding.

“So, here at Wave, we enable the community to carry out these activities all of which help to inspire healthy lifestyles.”

A selection panel reviewed the applications received and awarded funding based on submissions and requirements.

The 12 recipients of the 2017 funding round include: Up the Tempo Dance School, which will host a community dance event; Nippers, which delivers sports coaching to five to 12-year-olds in after-school clubs; Newhaven Girls Football Club, which needed support to hire an astro-turf pitch for winter training sessions; and The Skatehouse CIC, which needed funds for skate club coaching in Newhaven.

Wave Leisure Trust was formed in 2006; it manages nine facilities on behalf of Lewes District Council, East Sussex County Council and in partnership with Seaford Head School, Ringmer Academy, Priory School and Newhaven Town Council.
