Fundraiser for Tsunami

Noriko Hughes, Hiroko Kobayashi, Yuko Casey, Reiko Evans and a team of supporters raised £2,923 (with more funds still expected) at the event.

Shoppers and passers-by gave donations in return for participating in origami, kimono-tying and bookmark-making workshops, while children took part in the chopsticks challenge, yo-yo fishing and the adults enjoyed a shiatsu massage.

Kendo and Chado demonstrations proved very popular with spectators and local Japanese restaurant, Wabi, donated Sushi, which was sold out in a matter of hours. Horsham firefighters, some of who assisted in the rescue effort in Japan, told people of what they had seen during the devastation and, of their experience of the work of the Red Cross overseas.

Noriko Hughes said; “We all have friends and family in Japan who have been affected by the devastating earthquake and tsunami, so we just wanted to do something to help. We would like to thank the local council for their support, and the generous people of Worthing who dug deep to help raise such a phenomenal sum for the Japanese appeal.”
