A former funeral directors in Lewes will be turned into flats after Lewes District Council approved the scheme.

Applicant K Ardagh was given permission to transform 28 Western Road into a bedsit and a two bedroom flat and change the use from commercial/retail to residential.

It was approved by the planning committee meeting on Wednesday April 1 held at County Hall in Lewes.

One neighbour raised concerns about the loss of another business, adding there were few businesses left at the top end of town.

The last tenants moved out in June 2014 to another shop in town. The property has been empty for six months. Both neighbouring properties are residential and the building is outside the main shopping area.
