Funeral directors’ reunion

A trip down Memory Lane proved a real tonic for a retired funeral director from Battle. Elaine Moon joined F Jempson & Son in Battle in 1965, after a career in nursing - including wartime service in a front- line medical unit in North Africa. Joining the then proprietor, Ken Jempson, she qualified as a funeral director, and worked there until 1985, retiring shortly after the firm became part of the Co-operative group (now Co-operative Funeralcare).

A reunion with two former colleagues, Hugh Malins (now the office manager) and Alan Graham, retired funeral director, was arranged by Senior FD Peter Welch MBIE, and was followed by lunch at the Powdermills Hotel. Mrs Moon, now 93, said she thoroughly enjoyed the day, meeting up again with old friends and exchanging many memories.
