FUNERAL OF EXPLOSION VICTIM

The funeral service for Brian Wembridge, will be held at All Saints Church, Crowborough on Tuesday, December 19.

The cortege will travel from Crowborough fire station to All Saints Church in a small convoy of fire service vehicles followed by family vehicles.

The funeral procession will leave Crowborough fire station in Beacon Road at 10.30am.

It will then move down High Street, into Crowborough Hill and end outside All Saints Church just before 11am, these roads will be shut while the procession passes.

An East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service Guard of Honour, including two standard bearers, will meet the coffin inside the church gates.

As it is a private service, family, friends, villagers and invited guests will be inside the church.

Depending on space, Fire Service personnel will also be allowed into the church while the remainder will be asked to gather outside on the green.

Retired firefighter and Service photographer, Brian Wembridge was one of two people who lost their lives in an explosion at a fireworks factory, near Ringmer, on December 3.

Retained firefighter, and member of the Mobilising and Communication Centre, Geoff Wicker, also lost his life in the incident.

No details of Mr Wicker's funeral have been released as yet.

A full investigation is being carried out into the cause of the incident and is being led by Sussex Police, assisted by the Health and Safety Executive and East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service.

To assist with parking at Mr Wembridge's funeral, permission has been granted by Crowborough Army Camp, on the A26 - south of the town - to act as a rendezvous point. A "park and ride" system will be in place.

After the funeral service, close family members will be escorting Mr Wembridge's coffin to the crematorium.
