Funeral of young soldier

Hundreds of people lined the streets of Uckfield today (Thursday) to pay their final respects to a young soldier killed by a suicide bomber.

The funeral of paratrooper Daniel Gamble was held at Holy Cross Church.

As his funeral procession travelled through the town onlookers burst into spontaneous applause.

Private Gamble, 22, a rifleman and linguist, was on patrol with his platoon in Afghanistan when he was killed by a suicide bomber.

His parents Paul and Georgina Gamble, of Piltdown Rise, speaking after his death on June 8, said: 'Dan died doing the job he was so proud to do, with the regiment he was so proud to be a part of.'

They added: 'He was special to his family and friends '“ a true hero in every sense. He will be missed by so many people '“ more than he would ever know.

'We all love him and will miss him so very much, forever in our memories.'
