Funeral of young soldier

Private Gamble ,from Piltdown Rise, was killed by a suicide bomber in Afghanistan.

A service will be held at Holy Cross Church, Uckfield, at 1.30pm.

Instead of flowers, his family has asked people to donate to a memorial fund to raise money for military charities, including an appeal to set up a new wing at a military hospital in Afghanistan.

More than 1,000 has already been raised.

Organisers of the memorial fund, Yvonne Coleman and Sally North, who are friends and neighbours of the Gamble family, thanked the 4th Uckfield Scouts Group which gave them a stall at its Fiesta Day on Saturday.

Donations can be made to the Private Dan Gamble Memorial Fund at Uckfield Natwest bank.
