Further delays expected for commuters as damaged rail repaired

Major disruption in the Clapham Junction area is expected as commuters make their way home this evening (April 30).

Hundreds of passengers on the Brighton Mainline were delayed for up to five hours today after an electrical supply problem on the line.

British Transport Police officers handed out water bottles to those stuck on the train. Others complained about the lack of air conditioning.

Delays are expected at London Victoria and passengers are being advised to take different routes out of London.

Southern Rail’s website states: “Electrical supply problems in the Clapham Junction area has caused major disruption in the Clapham Junction area.

“There is a very limited service into and out of Victoria and we are advising passengers to avoid Victoria and travel on different routes into and out of London.

“Passengers can use the London Underground, London Bus, London Tramlink, South West Trains, Southeastern, and Thameslink services.

Network Rail is in the process of repairing the damaged power supply rail and services will continue to be disrupted while this is taking place. We expect there to be disruption to services with delays, cancellations and short notice alterations for this evening’s peak as there will be trains and train crews out of place.”

London Victoria to Eastbourne/ Ore services will start and terminate at Haywards Heath. Customers can use Thameslink services to Haywards Heath.

London Victoria to Littlehampton services will start from Haywards Heath. Thameslink services to Haywards Heath.

London Victoria to Portsmouth Harbour/Littlehampton will start from Gatwick Airport or Three Bridges.
