Further move to block watersports at Herbrand Walk beaches

A GROUP of residents objecting to a beach development have hit upon an unusual way to continue their fight.

The Herbrand Walk Beach Preservation Society have applied to register Herbrand Walk as a Town Green under the Commons Act 2006.

It is the latest move in a dispute centered around Collington resident Steve Hall's plans to open a family seaside sports area on a section of his beach.

Mr Hall's planning application to set up a kayaking area, including beach huts, toilets and car parking has twice been turned down by Rother District Council, the second time against the advice of RDC planning officers.

He has now appealed the decision with the Planning Inspectorate in Bristol.

East Sussex County Council are one week into a six week consultation on the Town Green application to decide if: "a significant number of the inhabitants of any locality, or of any neighbourhood within a locality, have indulged as of right in lawful sports and pastimes on the land for a period of at least 20 years."

Town Greens mainly preserve right of access, blocking the owner from fencing off or erecting buildings on the land, or re-surfacing.

Steve Hall chose not to comment at this stage.
