Future bright for Bexhill High

THE Executive Principal of Bexhlll High School claims its future is looking bright.

Mike Conn said the six-week period in January and February had been "very positive" for pupils and staff, with progress made on the new development and also at the existing site in Down Road.

Mr Conn commented: "The roof is now on the new school in Gunters Lane and work is proceeding rapidly on the interior. It is all very exciting.

"It is incredible to see a new school being built from nothing and looking at it today. There is still some way to go but it is getting there.

"The workmen have battled through the snow and bad weather and are really doing an incredible job. It's going to be fantastic.

"As you drive by you can see the future of education in Bexhill taking shape."

Mr Conn is also pleased with major changes made this term - that he has stepped aside from the day to day running of the school to focus fully on the 38 million development, that Di Hawksby has taken up the reins for the time being, and that private company Ninestiles has teamed up with Bexhill High to enhance its Year 11 work in English and maths.

Mr Conn said: "Make no mistake, these were three significant strategies which we decided to put in place for this year, and all with the aim of making the move to our new site as smooth as possible.

"This will be a massive change for everyone involved in the Bexhill High communty - pupils, parents, staff, governors and friends - and we must manage this in the best way possible, and I believe we are.

"We believe that these three strategies are working very well and, most importantly, are what is best for everyone at the school.'

He stressed that the new site will transform education in Bexhill but was disappointed some remain unconvinced.

"An unsigned letter in the Observer two weeks ago questioned the plans in place for Bexhill High. That disappoints me,' he said.

"We have to accept though that we cannot satisfy everyone. However, the people of Bexhill can rest assured we are doing our very best for our pupils and will continue to do so."
