Future secured at Lancing care home

AN historic Lancing care home has been entrusted to Worthing-based charity Guild Care as of today.

The trustees of The Bell Memorial Home in South Street, Lancing, decided to entrust the home to the charity in an effort to keep it open.

Suzanne Millard, Guild Care’s chief executive, said Guild Care had been working to protect residents and save jobs at the site.

“The Bell has been providing care to residents for nearly 100 years and, by becoming a subsidiary of Guild Care, we can ensure it has a future,” she said.

The Bell Memorial Home has 44 residents.

The charity was founded in 1890 by William Chorley whose vision was ‘to improve the spiritual and physical wellbeing of the poorer people by providing a change of scenery and fresh sea air’.

Reverend Andrew Reed, chairman of trustees for The Bell Memorial Home, said: “We are delighted that Guild Care has come forward to take care of our facility, our residents and our staff, as a fellow long-standing local charity, we know that The Bell will be in safe hands for the future.”

Guild Care will oversee the management of the home and provide a wide range of specialist support to enable the home and staff to continue operating.

Details on both the charities can be found at www.guildcare.org and www.bellmemorialhome.co.uk
