GALLERY: Lewes Carnival

BUMPER crowds enjoyed a fantastic Lewes Carnival on Saturday and helped to raise thousands of pounds for charity.

The event was organised by the Rotary Club of Lewes Castle and is expected to have raised in excess of 6,000 for local worthy causes.

A colourful procession made its way through the town to the Malling Recreation Ground for a host of displays and attractions.

The money raised will be shared between Lewes Victoria Hospital, the Lewes Contact Centre, and the Lewes Castle Appeal.

Lee Goacher, from the Lewes Castle Rotary Club, said: 'It was absolutely superb and without a doubt the best carnival in recent years.

'The collection was also up by about 1,000 on the previous year.'

He paid tribute to all of the people who have given up their time to make the carnival a success and in particular Lewes Castle Rotary Club president Kim Phillips and carnival organiser Gerry Noble.
