The gallery will be featuring woodcuts, oils and watercolours from members of the Society of Wildlife Artists along with work by Denmark-based painter Ben Woodhams and Dutch basket-maker Marianne van Niekirken.

“We are very excited to have work coming in from all over the country and from abroad,” gallery owner Peter Greenhalf said. “Ben Woodhams is an English artist living and working on the island of Bornholm, who specialises in working in the field, observing and sketching from life.

“The wildlife show is the one time in the year when we invite artists from further afield and feature work from those not based in Sussex and the quality of work from our invited artists is always high. We will also be showing the winning entrants from the RX Wildlife photography competition.”

The gallery will be showing work from Yorkshire printmaker Hester Cox, as well as oils by Brin Edwards from Suffolk and watercolours by Richard Allen from Wivenhoe in Essex (both members of the SWLA). There will be linocuts from Ian O’Halloran and Charlotte Matthews and lots of well-known local artists including Robert Greenhalf, Annie Soudain and Newenden artist, Jillian Eldridge, who will be showing her latest oils of moths.

The wildlife show will run at the Avocet Gallery from 18th May to 16th June.

The 9th annual RX Wildlife Festival is packed with wildlife-themed activities in the Rye area including a Land Rover Safari, mini-beast hunt and the Sussex Wildlife Trust Marine Roadshow.
