GALLERY: Worthing and Littlehampton's Boxing Day swims

ALTHOUGH the snow may have disappeared, there was still an icy sea awaiting more than 100 intrepid souls who took the plunge for Worthing Hospital's annual Boxing Day swim at Splash Point.

Worthing mayor Nol Atkins was among the brave brigade who were cheered on by a large crowd of onlookers to raise funds for the hospital's appeal for a second MRI scanner.

This was the event's 22nd year, and Dr John Bull, organiser since its inception, decided to mark his retirement by keeping dry on the beach this time and act as MC!

One of this year's co-organisers, Dr Mandy Grocutt, said: "It was really great, despite the cold weather. Last year, we raised about 8,000, and we are hoping to go even better than that this time."

Eight people stripped off for a dip in the sea in Littlehampton, to raise money for the town's carnival fund and other charities.

Two people managed to stay in the water for 15 minutes each.

Well-known fund-raiser Tyndall Jones collected 60.20 for the carnival fund from spectators.
