GALLERY: Zombies come to life on World Book Day in Littlehampton

Children of all ages helped to bring their favourite fictional figures to life as part of the celebration.

And to mark the event, Gazette readers have been sending in their own snaps of their little stars, with parents pulling out all the stops to create their children’s costumes.

Sabrina Wales, of Littlehampton, spent hours creating the outfits of her two little ‘mummies’, Caiden, four, and Archie, two.

The delighted duo shocked their friends at the Ticklemetoo playschool, in Bayford Road, Littlehampton, with their spooky attire.

Sabrina said: “I always make their costumes as it’s more fun that way. They loved the day and had stories read.

“The playschool has just opened their own mini library so all the children can borrow books they enjoy there.”

All the area’s primary schools joined the action.

St Philip’s Catholic Primary School, in Arundel, was flooded by Harry Potters, Little Red Riding Hoods, Mad Hatters and witches and even some James Bonds.

While St Margaret’s CE Primary School in Angmering was inundated by a diverse range of characters from a trio of Smurfs, Mary Poppins and even a ‘creeper’ from computer game Minecraft.

Madeleine Brookman, secretary at St Catherine’s Catholic Primary School, in Highdown Drive, Littlehampton, said the day was excellent, adding: “There was a real buzz of energy and enthusiasm around the school as the children were completely enchanted and absorbed.”

This is the 18th year World Book Day has taken place.

It is designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and marked in more than 100 countries all over the world.
