The party, held on Friday, was in celebration of a lifetime’s work by head gardeners, Jim Buckland and Sarah Wain. Peter presented BBC’s The Victorian Garden, a 13-part British television series in 1987 and it was this series that inspired husband and wife team, Jim and Sarah, to restore West Dean Gardens 25 years ago. Peter said: “The gardens at West Dean are the best place in Britain to see the skills that underpin the craft of gardening practice to perfection”. Alex Barron, chief executive of The Edward James Foundation presented Jim and Sarah with gifts.
