Gary Ryan joins start of the West Sussex Guitar Festival
Spokesman Teresa Henley explains: “This normally coincides with the wet season whereby Gary is forced to drive from Kent to West Sussex often along flooded roads and in howling gales and torrential rain. He arrives windswept and generally with no time to rehearse yet always gives an exemplary performance to a full audience at the Regis School of Music.

His musical education began at The Junior Guildhall School of Music, followed by a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music. He was appointed professor of guitar at the Royal College of Music at the age of 27. His contribution to the promotion and development of the guitar culminated with his recent appointment as head of strings at the Royal College of Music in May of this year.
“His gift of a good ear for capturing lyrical folk melodies and inventive reworking of their musical themes and rhythms has produced numerous compositions that stir the imagination of students of all ages. The landscapes and folklore of differing cultures throughout the world come to life in his recitals with his use of the guitar both as a stringed and percussive instrument.
“Gary has a deep commitment to the musical education of children of all ages and abilities and is sought for his expertise in instrumental competitions including the BBC Young Musician of the Year. He is a respected and much sought-after adjudicator and will be inspiring and entertaining all who participate in the West Sussex Guitar Festival on Saturday, November 2 and Sunday, November 3.”
