GCSE results joy in Battle

Claverham Community College said it had experienced its best ever results, with 75 per cent of pupils achieving five or more GCSEs at grades A* to C, including English and maths.

Principle Paul Swatton said the results were nine per cent up on last year.

He told the Observer: “I am delighted with the outstanding results achieved by the students at Claverham Community College this year.

“75 per cent of the Year 11 students achieved five or more A* to C grades including English and maths.

“This represents the college’s best ever results when measured against the Government’s performance benchmark.

“These excellent results are a testament to the hard work, dedication and commitment of all the students and staff at the college, supported by parents and governors.

“My congratulations go to them all.”

There was further good news over at Robertsbridge Community College, which also enjoyed a nine per cent leap, with 65 per cent of pupils achieving a total of five A* to C grades, including English and maths.

There were some highly impressive individual performances too with a total of 10 students achieving seven or above A*/A grades.

Top performer at Robertsbridge was Anna Austen, with a collective total of 12 A*/A grades and one B grade. The college’s specialist subject of maths, together with triple sciences and art and design, all performed well, achieving in excess of 80 per cent of A* to C grades.

Headteacher Simon Potten said: “The endeavour and hard of work of students and staff alike has earned this well-deserved success.

“The college is well placed for even further success in the future.

“I am pleased to be able to congratulate all students.”

Meanwhile Battle Abbey School achieved yet another strong set of exam results, hot on the heels of last week’s 100 per cent A-level pass rate.

Headmaster Roger Clark said: “This really is an incredibly strong set of GCSE results for us, and the staff and pupils are absolutely delighted.

“92 per cent of pupils achieved at least eight A* to C grades.

“In fact 51 per cent of all grades were either A or A*.

“Particular mention should go to Jo Hartnell who brought in 11 A* grades, Dani Edmunds and Bethany James with 10 A* grades and Daniel Snape who achieved nine A* grades.

“In fact Dani Edmunds achieved an astonishing 99 per cent in six of her subjects and an amazing 100 per cent in one other.

“Many pupils achieved a high number of A and A* grades.

“Lilly Lee with 11, Lilly Lindon with 10, Rocky Bullin and Emily Montford with nine, Betty Edwards and James McIntyre with eight and Jed Crouch with seven.

“Great credit goes of course to our teachers, pupils and parents for their massive commitment to these achievements.”
