GENERAL ELECTION: Labour picks Brighton Kemptown candidate

A Labour city councillor will take on Brighton Kemptown's Tory MP Simon Kirby at next month's general election.

Mr Kirby, who was first elected in 2010, is defending a majority of 690 votes from Labour.

Lloyd Russell-Moyle, who has represented East Brighton since winning a by-election last August, has been selected as the prospective parliamentary candidate for the Brighton Kemptown constituency.

He tweeted: “Thanks for support today esp from all candidates, we have had a great reception on the door & delighted to be @KemptownLabour’s candidate.”

The other candidate already announced is Emily Tester, who is standing for the Lib Dems.
