Generous workers build path for free in Bognor

RESIDENTS with learning disabilities in Bognor Regis have benefited from a company's generosity.

They now have a path wide enough for wheelchairs to enable them to more easily visit the Retirement Activities Project at one of the L’Arche charity’s day services on Hawthorn Road.

The work was carried out for free by Miller and Ash, an Aldwick-based improvement company.

Sam Ash, the PA to the firm’s managing director, saw the chance when he visited the garden project of the charity.

Five Miller and Ash employees were joined by a few of L’Arche’s residents and carers to create the new path amid numerous cups of tea, laughs and cheers.

Sebastian Siemieniec, the work areas co-ordinator for L’Arche, said: “It became apparent while we were making estimates for the improvements that the costs exceeded our planned budget.

“We needed to find a way around the problem. We were very fortunate Sam offered to help.”

Sam said it had been easy to find volunteers for the work.

“We feel like a family, even though not all of us are related, and family members support each other.”

The original path which led to the building in which the project is based was too narrow to make access for those in wheelchairs a challenge.
