The hotel introduced the scheme in 2013 whereby a £1 discretionary donation is added to every guest’s bill. Guests are asked on checkout to choose between one of two charities they would like to support, and the hotel then matches every £1 donated.

Alex Clarke, director of The George in Rye, said: “We were very pleased to be able to raise funds for the Sara Lee Trust because of the wonderful support it is able to offer the local community.”

The Sara Lee Trust provides complementary therapies, counselling and creative therapies to people in the Hastings and Rother area living through cancer and other life threatening illnesses, with support for their families and carers.

Maria Gonet, Fundraising Manager for the Sara Lee Trust said: “As a small charity, without any statutory funding, we are entirely reliant on donations and fundraising.

“The money raised by The George in Rye will help us enormously to provide much needed support to those referred to us.”
