George gets taste of life in fast lane

A FORMER Bersted parish councillor had the ride of his life at Goodwood.

George Short stepped into the fast lane at Goodwood Motor Circuit last Saturday in aid of the Camelia Botnar Childrens Centre.

George, 62, a retired financial advisor, donned a set of leathers and rode in a Formula One sidecar outfit to help raise funds. Driven by Worthing-based racer Des Lindsey, George replaced regular passenger Mark Fairhurst for two laps of the famous circuit.

He said “I didn’t realise how much effort it would take. I train three times a week at a local gym to keep mobile and this was like all three sessions rolled into one.”

George is membership secretary of Climping-based Sussex British Motorcycle Owners Club.
