German students arehelping local school

Julian and Hannah aged 15 and 16 are from Hollenberg Gymnasium school in Waldbrol, Germany.

They have each been assigned to one class and they are working as Teaching Assistants in those classes.

Hannah and Julian have been teaching the St Mary’s pupils some words in German. They have also been explaining that in Germany they have lessons in both German and English so they grow up to be fluent in both languages.

Di Forester the work experience co-ordinater at St Mary’s said: “Julian and Hannah have worked really well in the classes. Their level of English is amazing and the children are really enjoying having them in class. They have been a real credit to their school”.

St Mary’s was founded in 1922 as a special school for disabled children by medical professionals who wanted to provide the best possible start for young people who then had few opportunities to access education with support.

It is a leading registered charity which provides non-maintained residential education and therapy for children and young people aged 7 – 19 who have severe speech, language and/or communication difficulties. The children and young people also have complex needs which may include medical issues, learning difficulties and physical disabilities.
