Get ready to vote for Yapton's World Cup song

YAPTON football fans have composed their own anthem saluting England's World Cup hopefuls.

And now the footie-mad friends have a goal to aim at themselves, after making it through to the quarter-finals of a radio station's World Cup songs competition.

Jamie Huband, his wife Mary, work colleague Ali Turner and their four children feature in "Capello", a tribute to the England manager and his squad.

They even made a video of the song, which has been viewed more than 3,000 times on Youtube and which comfortably won their first round tie of Wave FM's World Cup Songs contest.

With the quarter-finals of the competition now underway, the Huband and Turner families are appealing to Gazette readers to support them by voting for "Capello" by Messy Productions, on the Wave FM website from 7.30am onwards, tomorrow (Friday, June 4).

Flag-waving

The video was filmed by Jamie's brother Gavin in and around Yapton and on the pier at Bognor. Other children from the village join in, enthusiastically waving their England flags, as the singers march across Yapton's recreation ground and the catchy tune builds to its finale.

To watch the video, search for "capello1" on Youtube.

It all came about while Jamie and Ali, who works for Jamie's streetlighting firm Coast to Coast Contractors, were having one of their regular sing-along sessions over a beer on a Friday night.

"This time we had the kids in, too, and it just all came together," said Jamie, of Park Road. "We wanted to put it on Youtube, so we got Gavin to make the video, and we are well pleased with it.

"The kids sing the song every day, and it's become very popular at the village school. We have a CD of it in our vehicle for work, which we put on to give us a lift when we need it.

'We need the votes'

"I think we've got a really good chance of winning the competition."

Songs in the contest will also be played on Steve Power's breakfast show on the station on the day they are up for votes by the listeners.

Jamie's wife Mary said: "We need all the votes we can now as we are down to the last eight, and they all seem to be in the music industry."

As for the World Cup, both families are looking forward to the big kick-off, on June 12. Said Jamie: "We can't wait for the World Cup to start. It's something that gives the whole country a boost and we are really hoping that England can do well this time.

"Our song is about Capello, and he is the manager who has got us to the finals, and I think we have a brilliant chance this year."

The song is also available on a CD at the website CDbaby.com/
