Get set for a bypass

This was the assurance given to Chichester district councillors by Cllr Tex Pemberton, West Sussex County Council cabinet member for highways and transport.

He was responding to a question from Midhurst representative Cllr Brian Weekes, who asked him: "If Midhurst Grammar School moves to Easebourne, will Midhurst have a bypass at long last?"

Cllr Pemberton said: "It would seem the best site might be where the intermediate school is. This would release land used by the grammar school, which could be available for large developments.

"Any developments would, I am sure, fund the aspiration we have all had for a bypass at Midhurst, because Midhurst is a bottleneck."
