Get the antiques in your attic valued at Midhurst

Twenty years ago Buffy Parker from the Fernhurst auctioneers John Nicholson’s spotted a painting at Sotheby’s which he thought he recognised and bought it for £170.00.

It was a painting by Sebastian del Piombo of Pope Clement 7th and he sold it at Christie’s for a figure he described as ‘phone numbers’.

Now there’s a chance for people in the Midhurst area to get that dusty heirloom valued as three of Nicholson’s top experts including Buffy Parker are coming to Pendean House at West Lavington on June 20.

‘Antiques in the Attic’ was the inspiration of well known Midhurst resident Trina Duncan, who died suddenly earlier this year, as a fund raising event for Midhurst Parish Church.

The day is open to everyone from 10.30am–4.30pm and for a fee of only £5 the three experts will give their professional opinions. Tea, coffee and cakes will be served all day.

Trina’s daughter Emma has taken over the organisation of the event in conjunction with Midhurst Parish Church.

“In essence Midhurst’s very own Antiques Road Show is coming to Pendean,” she said.

“So get up in the attic, dust off the old pictures, polish the silver and hunt out the unworn jewellery.”

As well as valuing any items John Nicholson’s can also arrange to sell them if anyone would like them to.

“Let’s hope they find a few ‘sleepers’ among the items and Midhurst can boast its very own art millionaires,” said Emma.
