'Give residents a say in seafront plans'

APPEALS have been made for the public to be involved at an early stage over the Marina "social road" proposals and for the plans to be explained to them.

The Observer told last week how landscape architects Tim Gale Associates had proposed halving the width of Marina between Sackville Road and Devonshire Road, eliminating parking and creating a cycle track on the southern side.

Monday's meeting of Rother's regeneration and environment overview and scrutiny committee resolved to ask the council's cabinet for further discussion to take place with key stakeholders including the county council and the regeneration Taskforce to consider options for progressing the scheme.

At the suggestion of chief executive Derek Stevens, a request was added for a special panel to be set up under the new scrutiny committee system to look into the proposals in more depth.
