Gliding club takes ownership of site

SOUTHDOWN Gliding Club has become the proud owner of its own airfield at Parham for the first time in its 79-year history.

The site had been leased by the club from the Parham Estate since 1974. However, in early 2008 the estate decided to sell the airfield on the open market.

In a short time, through loans and donations from members, the Philip Wills Trust and the British Gliding Association, the club's membership raised enough money to secure the site and the club's long-term gliding future.
