GO GREEN: Sign up to support the St Barnabas House hospice appeal

THE wonderfully-dedicated staff at St Barnabas House hospice do an incredible job - they have given respect, privacy and dignity when countless people have needed it most.

This week, the Herald and Gazette series launches its Go Green for St Barnabas Appeal.

We want to raise 5,000 to equip the new hospice, which is currently being built in Titnore Lane, with things that will help make the last days of life for people with a terminally illness more bearable.

Every year, St Barnabas House cares for more than 800 people in Worthing, Arun and Adur with cancer and life-limiting diseases.

Through an inpatient unit, day hospice and community teams, St Barnabas offers specialist help to people facing the end of their lives, and provides support for their families, too.

Green theme

To help make the brand-new hospice a reality, another 2m needs to be raised.

If every one of our readers donated just 17 pence we would match our target of 5,000 instantly.

Herald and Gazette readers can help by joining our simple campaign - and have some fun at the same time.

All we are asking is for people to organise a green-themed event and raise some money.

That could mean everyone in your school, office or community group wearing green - the hospice's trademark colour - or arranging a green fund-raising event.

From doing something eco-friendly, such as turning lights and computers off at the end of the day in return for sponsorship, to selling cakes with green icing.

Some schools have already pledged their support by agreeing to hold non-uniform days, asking their students to pay 1 to leave their uniforms at home and instead wear green to lessons.

That money will go into our appeal fund and we are incredibly grateful for their generous support.

Northbrook College in Worthing, The Towers Convent School in Upper Beeding, Globe Primary School in Lancing and Downsbrook Middle School in Worthing have all agreed to hold Go Green days in the coming weeks.

We want other schools and nursery schools to follow their lead and hold their own green days.

Maybe businesses in the area will also join in and - and encourage their customers to Go Green, too.

From Scouts and Brownies to WI groups - anyone can help.

Please help us to help the hospice. We hope to raise 5,000 to play our small part in making the new hospice a reality.

So what are you waiting for? Go Green.

What are you doing?

Let the Herald and Gazette series know what you are doing to support the new St Barnabas House appeal by contacting Sarah Dale on 01903 282363 or email [email protected] well in advance and it will be publicised.
