Gold standard of fun at church's Olympic event

OLYMPIC games came to a Bognor Regis church.

The Oops Olympics! sporting fun was the theme of this year’s holiday club run by the town’s Baptist Church.

The opening day was attended by 134 children who were plunged into an inter-town rivalry between Bognor Regis and its opponent, Bongo Regis, alias Littlehampton.

Church minister, the Rev Graham Banks, said: “We had a torch come into our opening ceremony to light the Olympic flame. But the torch was stolen by a villain from Bongo so the ceremony was postponed.

“Someone also came in to steal two of our Olympic rings.”

Amid the rivalry, there were plenty of chances for the four to 11-year-olds to enjoy dance, craft, percussion workshops and sporting activities.

“The moral for Tuesday was about giving all you have got. The important thing is taking part and not winning,” he said.
