Golden display marks half century of flower arranging

A golden display by Felpham Flower Club members formed part of a national anniversary.

The arrangement of golden roses, lilies and carnations was put on show in Felpham village centre to mark the 50th year of the National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies.

The stunning collection of blooms drew the attention of passers-by to an empty shop which was loaned for the occasion by May's estate agents.

The celebrations will culminate in May with a spectacular flower festival in Westminster Abbey which club members are eagerly anticipating visiting.

Felpham Flower Club celebrated its golden anniversary two years ago. It is a thriving and active club with a busy programme.

A members' day last month saw Norman Flint give an interesting slide show, Gardens Galore, which depicted a variety of gardens in this country and aboard.

Usually, however, the meetings consist of a floral demonstration by an expert and followed by refreshments. There is also a lively competition table, sales table and raffle.

Workshops have been additionally organised during February to enable members to learn new skills.

The club's next meeting is at 1.30pm on February 26 at Felpham Memorial Village Hall in Vicarage Lane for a floral demonstration, This Time of Year, by Pam Bryant.

On May 15, the club will be holding a special floral demonstration by nationally renowned Jonathan Moseley. Called Forward Thinking, this will take place at the Windmill Entertainment Centre at Littlehampton and will be open to the public.

Tickets are priced 9.50 each. All profits will go to the Sussex Air Ambulance.
