Golfers' charity drive proves to be a big success

Despite the poor weather early in the day, 40 enthusiastic golfers teed off at the Avisford Park Golf Club and raised £776.50 for the Aldingbourne Trust, a charity that supports adults with learning disabilities.

The Trust also received a cheque for £200 to sponsor the 18th hole; this kind donation was made by Nick Swallwell from Secure Site UK Ltd.

Gavin Pusey, organiser of the tournament, said: “It has been a fantastic day of golf and we had great raffle prizes. Despite the weather everyone turned up to support the Aldingbourne Trust and to raise money for a good cause.”

The men’s tournament was won by Mike Shelton with Trish Hanks winning the women’s competition, and they both received a gold medal, an Aldingbourne clock and bottle of champagne.

Dave Potter won the prize for the longest drive and the nearest the pin prize was split between four winners: George Hamilton, Trevor Owen, Trish Hanks and Scott Wilson. The money raised at the golf day will go towards the Trust’s £4m appeal, which will fund new developments at The Aldingbourne Country Centre near Fontwell, and includes a conference centre, shop and café.

This new development will allow the charity to increase its self-sufficiency and continue to provide the high quality of support for adults with learning disabilities, allowing them to lead independent lives and gain employment in the community.
