Good old Sussex by the sea

THE picture says it all - now is the time for Sussex folk to show pride in their county, and one of Rother District Council's two members for Bexhill St Stephen's ward, Councillor Paul Lendon, is leading efforts to establish June 16 as Sussex Day.

At a forward planning meeting held at Bexhill’s Visitor Information Point at St John’s Church Hall last weekend, Brady Ells from Heathfield left no doubt where his loyalties lay, sporting a waistcoat and bringing along a flag emblazoned with martlets, the county’s symbolic bird.

Town mayor Cllr Stuart Wood was so impressed that he has said he hopes to arrange for a Sussex flag to be flown above Bexhill Town Hall.

Cllr Lendon said the meeting had gone well and another was planned for March 24, 2012, at the same venue.

He said: “We think it’s important to celebrate Sussex and by having a recognised date on which to do so each year, it will hopefully focus attention on the qualities of our county and create interest in its people and attractions.”
