MATURE student Karen Betteley proved you are never too old to learn when she got a B grade in maths after studying at the adult education centre at Boundstone Community College, Lancing.

Mrs Betteley, a governor at the Lancing school, was one of nine mature students who took maths at GCSE level at the centre this year.

Tutor Kathy Fenlon said five of them achieved B grades, while the remaining four got C grades.

Mrs Betteley told the Herald: "I did a basic skills maths course here a year ago, because my daughter was coming home saying 'help me with my homework' and I couldn't.

"The basic skills course was good. It gave me enough confidence to think I could do it. So, finally, at the age of 42, I've got my maths, 25 years after I first took it here."

Adult education manager Will Pickford said the pass rate at A to C GCSE level at the Lancing centre was 100 per cent this year.

The new term starts on Monday, September 19, and people can now enrol online at www.westsussex.gov.uk/adulteducation
