Principal Paul Swatton said: “The pupils and staff at the college worked exceptionally hard in preparing for the GCSE examinations and I would like to congratulate them on the results that they have achieved.

“There were many outstanding results for individual pupils across all subject areas with 89 percent of pupils achieving five or more A* to C grades.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank parents, carers, staff and governors for giving our pupils the support, encouragement and self-belief to achieve their potential.

“However we are disappointed with our GCSE results in some areas, as they show a drop in the overall grades, with our figure for five or more A* to C grades, including mathematics and English, currently being 65 percent.

“We are carrying out a full analysis of this year’s results, but they do seem to have been adversely affected by the tightening of grades, particularly in English, which has been reported in the national media in recent days.”
