Goodbye doc!

PATIENTS and staff at Sompting's Ball Tree Surgery said goodbye to Dr Rob Ferguson on Friday, who has retired after 26 years.

Dr Ferguson started work at the Lancing Health Centre in 1976, and the practice moved to Sompting in 1983. He also works at Worthing Hospital's eye department once a week, which he still hopes to continue.

Dr Ferguson came to Lancing from Nepal, where he had worked as a missionary doctor for four years. Residents and staff raised 1,000, which will go to a missionary hospital in Tansen, Nepal, where Dr Ferguson had originally worked.

He said: "Many people have asked what I plan to do with my retirement. Well, the truth is first that I have already retired. I went part-time several years ago and have already found lots of DIY and gardening things to do.

"I still have sporting things I like to do, as well as bird watching. I am very involved with our church in Broadwater and there are exciting things going on there.

"We have our daughter, son-in-law, and two grandsons in Bristol. It will be nice to visit them and not have to rush away."
