Georgian Gardens Primary School has been awarded £250 by UK Power Networks to take part in the Greenpower Goblin Challenge.

Gary Comber, who has a son in his final year at the school and a daughter who is a former pupil, applied for the money under the company’s Team Sports Awards programme, which supports community groups and clubs with which employees have a connection. He works for UK Power Networks as a performance assurance manager, based in Crawley.

He said: “A team of 14 children in year-6 take part in the challenge.

“The project aims to inspire young people into engineering in a fun and innovative way. The Goblin kit comes flat-packed and with a step-by-step manual, to talk the team through the construction.

“Building the Goblin introduces basic engineering to all team members and, once completed, they have a full functional car to take part in the events.”

Teacher Chris Ansell said: “We are very grateful to UK Power Networks. We will put their money towards parts to keep the cars in top shape in our aim to better our result of second last year.”
