Rother District Council’s cabinet agreed to recommend to the full council to give AmicusHorizon the money for its affordable housing development in Peasmarsh on Monday (November 7).

The housing association was given permission to build 19 sheltered housing units for social rent, 11 affordable rented units and six shared ownership properties on The Maltings in June.

But legal changes, increased building costs and unexpected hurdles such as new drainage system has caused a deficit in the funding.

Council officers believed it was worthwhile contributing financially as Amicus would be unable to deliver the homes without the grant and they would be valuable to those on the housing waiting list.

Cabinet members agreed and the full council will make a final decision at a future meeting.
